Description

LASSITHI PLATEAU

The monastery of Panagia Kera is the first stop. It is believed that the founding of the monastery is connected with the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, from which it takes its name (Kera means Our Lady). According to tradition, during the iconoclastic period, this icon was moved to Constantinople, but returned miraculously.

Heading at the heart of Lassithi Pateau, Psychro you pass by beautiful scenery of Lassithi and you can admire the windmills that used to irrigate the land.

You  arrive at Psychro village. There is located the cave of Zeus- Dictean Cave. After a small walk (about 15’) you arrive at the cave. The cave is the mythical birth place of Zeus – king of the gods. The cave is full of impressive stalactites and stalagmites.

Next stop is at the ceramic workshop. There you can enjoy a professional workshop to see how traditional ceramic are made and you can try also to do one by yourselves.

Lunch break at a small village. You can go to a tavern and taste local dishes (food is not included in the price).

Last stop at a traditional village for a last walk to enjoy the Cretan countryside.

Don’t miss a relaxing day exploring Crete’s past - from the Ancient Greek Gods to traditional village life.
